FREE FRAME SWAP FOR EARLY MODEL EXPLORER AND HAMMERHEAD BUGGIES
Dear Explorer or Hammerhead owner
We’re always seeking ways to improve the function and safety of products through our continuous innovation programme, and when feasible to do so we make those improvements available to owners of older versions of the product.
A recent development through that programme has been an improved brake mechanism for our Explorer and Hammerhead buggies. Whilst the previous construction (Series 1; pre February 2011) passed all safety certification, testing of the new construction has shown it to be significantly more durable.
We implemented the upgrade in production some months ago, creating ‘Series 2’ Explorer and Hammerhead buggies, and are undertaking an initiative to make the new, improved brake available to owners of Series 1 Explorer and Hammerhead buggies (identifiable by serial numbers between 0610/0001 and 0111/4788; where the first 4 digits correspond to month and year of manufacture).
The decision to make the new Series 2 brake available to Series 1 owners is a measure that we think is appropriate after recording higher than normal warranty repair levels to Series 1 Hammerhead and Explorer buggies, and reports of users choosing to continue using damaged product, which of course presents a potential safety risk.
The "safety recall" notice, below, has been placed in all Australian daily newspapers, and is attached here for your information. Our solution for you is simple: a free upgrade to the Series 2 brake system for Series 1 owners, with the following options:
- a simple frame swap that can be implemented at home by you (frame delivered; Explorer only, NOT Hammerhead)
- or a phil&teds service centre brake upgrade (walk-in, walk out, or door to door courier service)
We ask that you identify if your buggy is affected (see below). If it is we advise that you seek the free frame upgrade via the phil&teds website: www.philandteds.com/support. In the interests of ensuring that you have the most durable, and safest, product we can offer we encourage you to register for this FREE upgrade offer.
Should you have any queries at all please feel free to contact one of our trained customer service representatives.
With grateful thanks for your support for phil&teds.
How do I check the serial number?
This information can be found on a sticker appended to the outside of the left hand hinge (when viewing the buggy from behind). The number will look like this:
