Bath time is a great way to bond with your Bub. Some parents/carers bath their baby daily - however there is no real need to bath your baby every day. It is up to you as to how often you bath your bub. The overuse of strong cleansers/wash and even water can dry out your newborn’s skin.
When bathing baby SAFETY is the number one priority :
·       NEVER leave your baby alone in the bath
·       Before putting baby in the bath, make sure you have everything you need (towel, lotion, bath wash, nappies, pyjamas etc)
·       If someone knocks on the door, or the phone rings and you feel you must answer it, take your bub with you
·       Put cold water in the bath first and then add the warm water
·       Make sure all bath lotions and shampoos, and all electrical appliances,  are kept out of bub’s reach

BATHING BABY

1.    Try to use a small plastic baby bath or the kitchen sink instead of the standard bath as this requires you to lean or kneel awkwardly giving you less control over your bub’s movements
2.     Make sure you have everything you need
3.     Make sure the room is warm and the water approximately 38oC
4.     For newborns and babies up to six months old, fill the bath with 5 inches of water
5.     Gently lower your bub into the bath , using one hand to support their neck and head
6.     Use soap sparingly as you wash them.
7.     Rinse your baby thoroughly with a face washer
8.     Lift your bub out of the bath and wrap them in a towel and pat dry
9.     Dress you bub in appropriate clothes
10.   Place bub in a safe place and empty the bath

It’s important to stay with your baby at all times when they are in the bath. Children can drown even in very shallow water and in a few seconds.
